Long live kings, ex presidents,

collectors of cultural trivia and bric-a-brac,

autobiographers, librarians, recorders of dates,

wars and treaties, improbable political coalitions.

 

Long live self appointed luminaries,

writing their memoirs, scribbling themselves

across the pages of history like cobwebs. 

 

Long live gales, flash floods, fires,

brooms and mops, tropical deluges, fresh

grass and flowers, bright days of sun and beginnings.

 

Long live window cleaners, tabula rasa,

endless ink and paper, telescopes, discovery.

 

Expeditions to where no mind has gone before, unseeing eyes

of Ozymandias, buried forever beneath dunes of words.
