Diagnosis for Change

There are times we yearn for change

times we fight against its dictates

Maligned, we strain in its harsh fetters

ignore the cries of beseeching parents

Turn our backs on partners, children,

refuse to admit our views could ever change

There are times we curse, cause rocks to weep,

pray raindrops to freeze, rivers to alter course

We stare into mirrors unbelieving

dream that we can fly like birds

In some dark nights we swear to sacrifice

for it, pay any price that change demands

All these and more…

And there are times that all it takes is a sheet of paper

folded inside an envelope to change our lives

Beyond recognition
