Clay Poem

Lump on lump

and squeeze

water and oil

fingers press

intent

whirl up

fat, round

hollow

rising

becoming

form

between the

potter’s hands

Wordless worms

lie fat

in the mind,

soundless words

water and oil

unwriggled

like trapped

clay prisoners

unsqueezed mourners

at a poet’s funeral

hatless in the drizzle

of unwritten lines

interred unborn

Not a single word

to enunciate

the beauty

of an echoing urn

filled

with the stillness

of an unfilled mind
