JOHNMICHAEL SIMON POETRY

I wish I could say

they have incredible beauty

burnished, shining copper

with their black zips

 

Had I been to Swaziland

I would write about

their magic powers

how they keep

evil spirits away

 

And were I the editor

of an international cookbook

I would extol both

Haricot and string

 

But as I’m just

a hungry writer

opening another can

 

All I can

truthfully relate is

they made me fart
