After spending some time

searching for a way

to say what a rosebud does

so eloquently

 

I decided on chocolate

a largish box

with an illustration

of a landscape with cows

embossed with gold lettering

and tied with a silken bow

 

Glitzy suitor

too tongue-tied for roses

I did what Hollywood does best

fanfare, flourish, musical entry

then, tripping up over the threshold

bonbons spilt out on floor

(one layer only) and shredded cellophane

several filled centers adhering

to their molded plastic hearts

 

And the lady….

she eloped with a confidence man

who every morning

gave her a rosebud before breakfast

 

And a little later

absconded with her money
