A Glimpse of a Smile
A Japanese girl
hovering between kimono and jeans
crossed the road of my life
and I, enchanted by her
fine fragile outline
allowed my eyes to caress her
She glanced at me
something flashed between us
unseen, unspoken, barely felt
walking on, she adjusted her clothes,
smiled, looked away
as did I
When I looked again
she was gone, catlike in the mist
and all I ask of the painted face in the sky
is to allow that shy greeting
to linger on her lips
for just a few seconds more
before fading silently away
