A Few Thoughts on the Future
Despite dire warnings inscribed on temple walls
discarded cigarette packs all glowering with warnings
I’m planning to survive another day
another year perhaps, the garden needs some weeding
I’m planning to join an expedition in a spaceship
I’ve bought a ticket to tomorrow from a passing breeze
I’m dreaming of a new world, body parts recycled
the dog needs walking, really needs to pee
When days seem dim and foggy I’m a lighthouse
replacing bulbs that pop in bathroom walls
I borrow moments from passing companions
exchange some childish glimmerings of early joys
That’s all – the future’s full of knights and dragons
but sadly I can’t remember where I put my sword
